What experiences propelled you into the healthcare specialty of
nurse staffing?
I’ve been an RN since 1989. One factor which was obvious early in my career was that the quality of reputable nurse staffing agencies were lacking in the area I was practicing in. Since I felt that patient care should be the primary focus for placing nurses, I started my own company in 1995 with an idea as well as an ideal of what was needed.
What situations brought you to where you are today?
After leaving New Mexico and moving to South Florida, I found my own opportunity to build a nurse staffing company with the same high standards and model I used previously. Knowing that bringing the best care to patients and supporting healthcare providers with advantages to excel, I feel that we offer the crème de la crème of service all the way around.
Did you face obstacles on your journey and how did you overcome them?
From a business perspective, I was up against a significant amount of competition with large corporations. At the end of the day, customer service is what I feel sets me apart from the rest. On a more personal side, I began the business with my then best friend. As our relationship changed, and ultimately failed, I was able to pick myself up, dust myself off and decide to start
fresh with clear goals for a successful company that I could be proud of.
Do you or did you have a mentor and have you been able to mentor others?
As a teenager, family friends emblazed in my being that if I worked hard I could achieve anything. My mother brought this truth home when she graduated from college with her degree in nursing at the age of fifty-two.
In my passion for giving back to the community, Rick and Rita Case have been amazing models for me to emulate.
Maria Soldani, a dear friend, is my current real life heroine; I’ve never met someone who gives so unselfishly of herself.
With four children and three nieces, plus my involvement with The Boys and Girls Club, I would hope I am a positive influence on those lives I’ve been blessed to touch.
Looking back, is there anything you would have changed or done
differently?
I don’t believe in regrets, but I am wise enough not to repeat my mistakes. I have learned to focus on being with my children and balancing those precious moments with the time needed for my business.
What advice would you give to other women?
Do not limit your expectations…expect great things of yourself and of life. Take the risks to go after what you want, trusting that the results are endless.
